Producer Turnt Sanga
Nick Watkins was born and raised in Chicago. With much of his musical interest stemming from his grandmothers love for the piano, music was imbedded in him early in his life. Although, it wouldn’t be until later when he began to actually delve into creating music. He began curating beats when he was 14 years of age and from this period to his freshman year of college, he has honed his craft and created many projects that were composed of beats only. In 2014, his freshman year of college would be where he met fellow Chicago artists zen and Ibra who would soon after be the founding members of the 6-member Chicago-based collective, Oracle.
Oracle is a collective/band that is composed of Core REX, zen, Ibra, Sol, Julius Dolls & Apollo Belvedere & that fuses old school “boom-bat” hip hop, with the smoothness of Neo-Soul. In this group, Nick not only acts as a producer, but also as a vocalist. From this point on, Core REX has blossomed into a singer & mainly produces all of his tracks that he sings on.
In the past two years, Core REX has also made an effort to release songs under his own name as well. Releasing songs such as ‘smurf’, ‘lucid’, and ‘changes’, he is well on his way to create his own, unique vibe within his sound. With many new projects well under way from the kid from Chicago, he is ready to make a debut to not only the city, but to the world as well.
If I Go
The “If I Go” event was one of the most beautiful collaborative events the city has seen yet. Organized, detailed and installed by the great Marisa Domian, multimedia and music had such a legendary partnership it’s as if they were made for each other. Working day and night CoreREX and Domian combined their best work yet to give an unforgettable night exploring the gap within ourselves and the intricacies of love. With help from our founder, Liikoprints, this event lays the foundation for what you can expect from attending a WOi event. Revisit the gallery below!
